Front Locker

PIC01060.jpg (54190 bytes)    This....

PIC01061.jpg (54124 bytes)    Wants to be in this....

PIC01062.jpg (53503 bytes)    Lockright Part Number 2410

PIC01063.jpg (60955 bytes)    Pop the diff cover off and drain the gear oil.

PIC01064.jpg (51328 bytes)    PIC01065.jpg (55297 bytes)    Take out the hub bolts.  Warn hubs need a 7/64 allen wrench.

PIC01066.jpg (54570 bytes)    Use snap ring pliers to take off the axle shaft retaining ring.

PIC01067.jpg (54516 bytes)    A right angle pick is perfect for pulling out the outer hub retaining ring.

PIC01068.jpg (55743 bytes)    Use one of the allen bolts to pull out the hub body.

PIC01069.jpg (53129 bytes)    Then take a 3/8" allen socket to get the calipers off.

PIC01070.jpg (54115 bytes)    Once the calipers are off the rotor, use the handy dandy four-prong socket dealie to take off the outer spindle nut.

PIC01071.jpg (52602 bytes)    After the outer spindle nut is off, use a pick to remove the retaining washer.

PIC01072.jpg (54367 bytes)    Take out the inner spindle nut and remove the rotor.  Try not to drop the outer wheel bearing in the dirt.

PIC01073.jpg (51526 bytes)    Take off the six nuts to get the spindle and backing plate out.

PIC01074.jpg (54757 bytes)    Now the axle shaft can slide out a little.  Repeat for the other side.

PIC01075.jpg (56722 bytes)    Take off the four bearing cap bolts

PIC01076.jpg (61104 bytes)    And carefully drop the carrier.  Keep the bearing caps and bearings separated so as not to mix them up.  They are not interchangeable and must bolt back up on the side they came from.

PIC01077.jpg (55504 bytes)    PIC01078.jpg (58710 bytes)    Put the carrier in a vice and bust the ring gear bolts loose.  This is a really good time to become one with your tools and use only 6 point sockets.  Take your 12 point sockets and toss them in the trash.  They will only cause you grief.

PIC01079.jpg (54463 bytes)    Take a punch and whack out the retaining pin.

PIC01080.jpg (51375 bytes)    Once the retaining pin is out, pop the cross shaft out.

PIC01081.jpg (60513 bytes)    Take out the spider gears and the side gears.  Save the thrust washers that live behind the side gears.

PIC01082.jpg (59731 bytes)    My truck is begging to go wheeling.  Soon enough.  :)

PIC01083.jpg (46928 bytes)    Put the Lockright couplers  into the carrier.  Make sure to use the thrust washers that were behind the side gears.

PIC01084.jpg (50594 bytes)    Then install the drivers and spacers.  Use a little grease to keep the alignment pins from falling out.

PIC01085.jpg (39304 bytes)    Install the springs.  Be careful, one wrong move and these things will launch across the garage.

PIC01086.jpg (42537 bytes)    Pins and springs installed.  Put the cross shaft and retaining pin back in.

PIC01087.jpg (55199 bytes)    Make sure there are no burrs or left over locktite on the ring gear surface.

PIC01088.jpg (55548 bytes)    Use cherry flavor locktite on the ring gear bolts.  Torque them down to about 60 foot-pounds.

PIC01089.jpg (57737 bytes)    Pop the carrier back into the housing.  Locktite and torque the bearing cap bolts down to about 80 foot-pounds.

PIC01090.jpg (49339 bytes)    It was really f-in hot today.  Try to pick a cooler day to install you lockright.

PIC01091.jpg (57595 bytes)    Torque the six spindle nuts down to about 50 foot-pounds.

PIC01092.jpg (55197 bytes)    Torque the inner spindle nut to about 50 foot-pounds to seat the wheel bearings.  Turn it back about 1/4 turn, then tighten by hand.

PIC01093.jpg (54551 bytes)    Put the retaining washer back on.  If it doesn't line up with the nipple on the inner spindle nut, try flipping it around.

Bolt everything else back up and go wheel it already!  :)
